Slack & Parr Hydraulics Rotary Geared Flow Dividers

Genuine UK-Manufactured FDRX & FDL Series Flow Dividers

Complete Selector Guide, Technical Specifications & Sizing Support for Hydraulic Synchronization Systems in Indonesia.

Trusted Rotary Flow Divider Manufacturer Since 1917

Slack & Parr Hydraulics designs and manufactures a standard range of high-accuracy rotary flow dividers, featuring ground gears and lapped finishes for precise flow division and reliable high-pressure operation. Rotary flow dividers split the input flow from a single hydraulic supply into two or more outputs of equal or unequal flow, and are widely used for synchronization of rams (level lifting) or to operate two or more hydraulic actuators at different speeds, each protected with an integral relief valve. All units are fully reversible, so only one divider is required to synchronize actuators in both directions of movement.

Special applications, such as stainless steel flow dividers for corrosive environments, can also be manufactured, including small quantities and custom designs.

How to Select a Flow Divider for Hydraulics?

Equal Flow Dividers

Having decided on the separate flow ratio, the sum of which gives total input flow, select a divider that will pass these flow rates at or near 1500 rpm. If flow is variable, calculate the rotation speed at both maximum and minimum input and ensure it falls within the 750–3000 rpm range.

Unequal Flow Dividers

Select the desired flows at or near 1500 rpm, keeping in mind that all elements in a flow divider rotate at the same speed. Calculate the speed of one element from its flow rate, then select the remaining elements to provide their required flows at that same speed. In practice, any combination of outputs can be provided within each series’ rated capacity per section.

Calculation of Inlet Pressure

PQ = P1Q1 + P2Q2 + P3Q3 + PR, where P = inlet pressure, Q = inlet flow, P1/P2/P3 = outlet pressures, Q1/Q2/Q3 = outlet flows, and PR is the pressure required to rotate the flow divider (typically assumed at 17 bar / 247 psi for standard ISO VG 32 hydraulic fluid at 40°C).

Using a Flow Divider as a Pressure Intensifier

An equal-element unit with two sections can achieve approximately 2x the inlet pressure at one outlet if the second outlet is piped to tank. Unequal units can achieve higher intensification ratios. Intensified outlet pressure: Po = Pi × (E1+E2+E3…) / E1, where E1 is the element capacity of the high-pressure element and E2, E3… are the low-pressure (bypass) elements.

Typical Applications

Ram Synchronization & Level Lifting

Ram Synchronization & Level Lifting

Ensures multiple hydraulic rams move in unison for level lifting platforms, gantries and mobile equipment.

Multi-Actuator Speed Control

Multi-Actuator Speed Control

Operates two or more hydraulic actuators simultaneously at different, precisely proportioned speeds.

Pressure Intensification

Pressure Intensification

Dump one or more outlets to tank to intensify pressure at a remaining outlet for specialized processes.

Bidirectional Operation

Bidirectional Operation

All units are fully reversible, so a single divider synchronizes actuators in both directions of travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a rotary geared flow divider used for?
A rotary geared flow divider splits hydraulic flow from a single pump into two or more equal or proportioned outputs, most commonly to synchronize hydraulic rams or cylinders during lifting, leveling or multi-actuator operations.
What is the difference between the FDRX and FDL series?
The FDRX series covers smaller element capacities (2–9 cc/rev) suited to lighter-duty applications, while the FDL series covers larger element capacities (12–30 cc/rev) for higher-flow, heavier-duty hydraulic systems.
What is the maximum operating pressure?
The FDRX series is rated to 350 bar and the FDL series to 345 bar maximum working pressure.
Can flow dividers be customized, e.g. in stainless steel?
Yes. Special applications such as stainless steel flow dividers for corrosive environments can be manufactured, and small quantities or fully custom designs can be accommodated.
How do I choose the right order code?
Select the number of outlet elements and element capacity so total input flow falls at or near 1500 rpm (ideally within the 1000–2000 rpm range) using the selector guide tables above. Our technical team can help verify your calculation.
